"Wating For My Conviction" Reviews

Click here: Kweevak.com: Indie, Independent & Mainstream CD and DVD Reviews LESLIE CLEMMONS - WAITING FOR MY CONVICTION: Leslie Clemmons was raised in New Orleans, where she sang in church and high school choirs. Later she performed in and traveled with theater companies on a national and international level. Today she is an independent singer/songwriter living in New York City. Her husband Rod Clemmons co-wrote, produced and plays an array of instruments on Leslie's sophomore release. Together they have crafted a dozen diverse tracks for Waiting For My Conviction a musical gumbo of melodies and moods. Mrs. Clemmons has a wide vocal range and sings all her songs with conviction and pizzazz. Leslie and Ron meld ballads, country, jazz, pop and rock into well-produced songs. The CD features a good mix of soft singing over keys to up-tempo rockers moving to an electric guitar. Every song on this album has something special to offer but I particularly liked the radio friendly 'Perfect Imperfection' and the flavorful and funky '52nd Street'. Leslie and Rod Clemmons have cooked up a savory and sweet CD that is sure to please!

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I reviewed Leslie Clemmon's previous CD, "Stop the World" in 2004. I liked it's funky jazzy style and I'm glad that she has not taken too much of a departure on this record.

The opening track, "Perfect Imperfection", is very likeable, somewhere between AAA radio and your favorite folk song.

She is still in touch with her funky side and shows it off on "Lonely for Two". The staccato guitar is a nice touch. It gives it a certain energy.

"Don't Sing at The Table" makes me want to clap and move.

Most of these songs actually will make you want to move. I found my self chair-dancing a little while listening.

This is a fun pop-jazz-funky CD that I think will appeal to many.

Leslie Clemmons,"Waiting For My Conviction" (Verdict Records)
Sounds like Alanis Morissette backed by Dave Matthews on most of the album.
Damn catchy stuff and a very clear and crisp recording. This sounds great
from top to bottom. Twelve tracks from Clemmons and each is better than the last. I look forward to hearing more from her.

Rating: 3&1/2 out of 4 stars

Full MuzikMan Review
"Clemmons uses her voice to mold and shape every song around the instruments with a perfection rarely found in today's endless void of watered down Britney Spears-like main stream hits...I found her vocal style energizing, endearing and sultry all at the same time."-Keith"MuzikMan"Hannaleck (Associate writer, MusicDish.com)

“Leslie Clemmons • Stop the World • Verdict Records • After a successful career in musical theater, Leslie Clemmons shifts gears and enters the world of pop music. Not surprisingly, Stop the World features strong vocal performances from Clemmons.”-- Impact Press Magazine

Collected Sounds Review- Full Review Click Here "The CD starts out on a slightly funky note. Clemmons has a jazzy voice that would sound at home in a nightclub. Not the new kind of nightclub where everyone is drunk and they throw themselves on each other to the sounds of Britney Spears…but the old fashioned kind of nightclub, where the singer stands at the microphone in a long flowing dress and everyone politely sips cocktails and is enrapt by her." "The CD starts with a very pleasing soulful dance pop number reminiscent of Britain’s golden soul pop age. As you continue to listen, other styles become apparent: ballads, power pop, a little rock and a little twang.

All these songs are led by Clemmons’ smooth versatile sultry voice and her aim is always true. She is expressive without being histrionic, soulful without being over the top. She’s got the chops in everything she sings."

Leslie Clemmons has many things working in her favor, not the least of which is a strong understanding of almost all musical genres. She is able to blend this understanding extremely effectively on her new release Stop The World. Whether on the first track, Duplicity where she combines elements of pop and R&B or on the title track Stop The World where she chooses a ballad style to convey her message. One thing that never fails is that her exquisite voice and intriguing instrumentation are attention grabbers.
This CD contains something for almost everyone. A track like Interpret The Sky could easily receive play on both pop and adult alternative radio.
Throughout the CD Leslie remains true to her unique and gifted vision. We have not heard the last of this artist.
